    *** A SMG MALPRACTICE NIGHTMARE***
Dr. Richard Nelson is not a thorough and competent doctor. Between 2008 and March 2009 Dr. Richard Nelson failed to detect and diagnose my now deceased husband's non-small cell lung cancer. This failure to diagnose went on for over a year, whereas my husband saw Dr. Nelson numerous times - once for an annual physical, and 4 times following for back pain. Despite my husband having had previously documented back surgery, and the great possibility that this new pain was interrelated, Dr. Nelson refused to authorize an MRI for over 7 months, and instead referred him to an SMG physical therapist, and an SMG pain specialist - Dr. Rohit Oza, who put him on OXYCONTIN, and other addictive painkillers. It wasn't until the following March 2009, when my husband stated that the pain was now radiating down to his hip, that I adamantly indicated that he needed to go back to Dr. Nelson and ***demand*** that he write a prescription for an MRI - after all, what is the point of paying exorbitant insurance premiums for, if not to get the necessary testing that was covered ?!?!?!!! Dr.Nelson finally conceded, and agreed to authorize the MRI. Following, Dr. Nelson called to state that the MRI showed suspicious lesions that needed further evaluation/ testing through a CAT scan. A few days later, while we were out celebrating our young daughter's birthday, Dr. Nelson called to confirm that the diagnosis was indeed CANCER, and that the disease was in a very advanced stage. Throughout the next week, more tests were conducted, including a lung biopsy and a PET scan, reconfirming our worst fears - that the cancer had metastasized, and it was now the most serious and inoperable state - STAGE IV (4). Given this ****medical malpractice nightmare****, my husband opted to seek further treatment at a well known cancer center in NYC, who RE-confirmed in the very first appointment that my husband's cancer had been growing undetected - due to failure to diagnose - for at least a year prior. Despite my husband's strong will to survive he died in late 2011. There is so much more to this story, and how this ***avoidable misdiagnosis*** further impacted our lives, that will be published in due time. However, in the meantime, I can't emphasize enough that Summit Medical Group employs a high percentage of incompetent, and negligent physicians, who value their relationship with insurance companies, and maximizing their own referral system within the practice's physician - specialty network above all else, more so than the primary needs of the patient. As I pointed out early on, at least 7 months of proper medical care was lost, because Dr.Nelson wanted to save the insurance company the cost of *****one MRI*****, and instead chose to generate fees for a referral business of two of his colleagues, thus prolonging an accurate diagnosis that could have saved my husband's life. It needs to be mentioned that despite their extraordinary medical error, Summit Medical continued to bill us for these unnecessary services. I can simply state, if you value your health you should look elsewhere, than Summit Medical Group as a medical practice. They are an incompetent bunch on so many levels, and in so many varied disciplines, who do not take responsibility for their negligence into the patient in the form of billing ***unnecessary*** and ***deadly*** services rendered. Moreover, they neither respect nor regard the Hippocratic oaths they have taken: "Practice two things in your dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient." My good advice to all who should read this, predicated on vast experience, is - *** stay away from Dr. Richard Nelson, and Summit Medical Group as a whole if you value your good health, your family, and your life in general***
